For Cold Water - No Issue, but for Hot Water, Not So Sure

We've replaced our entire hot and cold water lines on our sailboat. The hot water now has a terrible plastic taste and smell. Clearly the plasticizers being used are not stable enough for hot water - this is disappointing. I would have used PEX, but our boat has many many twists and turns to the hose runs that wouldn't have been possible with the stiffness of PEX

Q: This appears to be the same hose that is used for the deck scuppers and bilge hoses. Is reinforced PVC hose recommended for this application?

3 Answers

A: That hose can be used for fittings above the waterline but for anything that connects to a thru hull below the waterline you need to use a reinforced rubber hose like Tridentflex Water Hose is used in lieu of pipe for provides better and easier installations where tight spaces, movement and vibration are considerations. Made of heavy duty tube with wire between 2 plies of reinforcement for excellent flexibility and bend radius. Trident hose resists heat, ozone, and collapse. Use for engine intakes, coolant, sanitation uses, scupper lines, bilge discharge and baitwells.
