Product Details

TotalTread is a ready-mixed, slip-resistant polyurethane non-skid deck paint with unique Propyltex™ wax texturing agents. The rounded shape of Propyltex™ waxes provides optimum gloss control and is less abrasive compared to silica texturing agents found in most non-skid deck paints or additives.

Apply TotalTread by brush, roller, or spray equipment. You will love the grippy, but not abrasive, high-traction surface. Apply a second coat for even more grip.

Available in Quart and Gallon sizes in four colors: Sand Beige, Kingston Gray, and White (which match our TotalBoat Wet Edge Topside paint colors), and Light Gray, which is a lighter, less blue gray than Kingston Gray.

Info & Guides
Most non-skid deck paints rely on a 'sand' silica additive to provide grip. While they are certainly effective at providing secure footing, they have a few drawbacks: Scrub your deck too hard and the additive can become visible, leaving unsightly dark specks. The shape of traditional additives doesn't bond well with the paint, and the finish doesn't last all that long.

Our TotalTread is formulated to address these issues. Instead of a hard irregular shaped silica grit agent, TotalTread's wax rubber spheres are shock absorbing to give the finish some elasticity. The paint sticks better, and the finish looks better longer. It's easier to clean and won't wear away from scrubbing. And, because it's still a 1 part finish, it's easy to apply.

IMPORTANT APPLICATION NOTE

TotalBoat TotalTread should be applied in thin coats. 1-2 thin coats are recommended, for best results.

HOW TO RECOAT TOTALTREAD FOR MAINTENANCE PURPOSES

To apply maintenance coats of TotalTread after a few years of use/exposure, clean/dewax the surface and lightly scuff it with 220-grit or 320-grit sandpaper or a maroon Scotch-Brite pad. Scuffing will naturally knock some of the grit down. If it really needs to be sanded heavier, you'll be able to judge that as you're doing it. If anything, the grit usually wears down after a few years, making it a little easier to sand, but would require at least one, maybe two coats of TotalTread for a more true color and desired texture.

They screwed up and never offered to send me more product

I have used this several years in a row. I do it every year and it holds up very good..not happy the price went up 25.00 but it works great..also it would be great if Jamestown Distributors would open the store back up for customer convenience and get off the Covid wagon.

It's okay, but I would probably pick another product

It's very easy to apply and reapply. I noticed after 3 years the deck was getting slippery. I followed the instructions and scuffed it up, taped off and reapplied. it was as easy as the original coat. However, i don't feel it is quite grippy enough when wet. Also, if left alone for too long, it gets really dirty and requires significant scrubbing to get the darkening stains that form. The worst quality is how hot the deck gets, you have to wear shoes in direct sun. Can be brutal on the bare feet.

Dark Grey, not light grey

I like the performance of this paint, however it was labeled and marked as light gray not dark gray. It's actually a pretty dark gray. Has anyone had success mixing white topcoat with this to lighten?

Some 5 years ago a family member slipped on our back yard shed's pressure treated wooden ramp. Broke her hip. Painted the ramp with floor paint with grit sand. Still too slippery. Bought Total Boat Non-Skid Deck Paint. No more slipping. After 2 full years, there were small spaces where the non-skid paint wore off the pressure treated wood. Sanded lightly & painted whole ramp again this afternoon (October 2021). Just ordered a second quart. Should hold me and the family in safety for the next six years. Would I recommend this to a friend? Yes. Dumb question.

Better than expected

Used to cover forward deck and gunnels where to boat builder had placed carpet over raw fiberglass ( no gel coat ). After removing carpet and glue residue and sanding used two coats of white total tread. Cured fast in the hot South Carolina sun ( temp in mid 80's). It is hard and durable I am very please with the results.

Easy to work with and covers well!

This paint is similar to Interlux Interdeck, which I used previously. it is easy to work with and cover well. You can probably get by with one coat. I used to for added texture and to ensure a more even coverage. The grip is good, but it doesn't reduce surface temperature as well as Interlux paint did. Overall it is a good paint and priced better than most non skids.

Keep it stirred

TotalTread, on my first time using it, was very easy to use. My biggest concern was it staying within the tape lines and not creeping/bleeding under - it didn't. And I didn't make any concerted effort to push the tape lines down extra good. What I did encounter was as the pan would get low I would get globs of the floating traction balls. Soon as I filled up the pan, the globs stopped.

I bought the tan and white and added the white to lighten the tan til I got the color to match the boat perfectly. After one application the deck looks beauitful and it is durable and non-skid perfectly. Very happy with all the Totral Boat products. I have been working on boats for over 50 years now and these are the best products I've used yet. Thank you, Vinnie Camerlengo

Easy to use but long dry time.

I used this product to paint the plywood cockpit sole in a 1987 Marshall Sanderling, catboat. The texturing additive stayed evenly distributed in the paint while applying. It did not settle to the bottom of the paint tray as other non-skid products I have used behaved. The downside, and partly my fault, was the 72 hour dry time. I applied the product in a cool 60->65 degrees fahrenheit two car garage under my house, with a high humidity. 24 hours after applying I opened both garage doors and had 3 fans moving warmer, dryer air into the garage and it still took 72 hours to dry. I have used other paints many times in the past that have dried in similar conditions within 24 to 36 hours.

Quite possibly the worst product I have ever used.

Quite possibly the worst product I have ever used. Applied 3 thin coats. 3 weeks later it has the consistency of wet chaulk. Ordered ""Kingston grey"" and got baby blue. Now I have 100+ hours of sanding to remove this baby blue wet chaulk/grease. Contacted customer service and was sent another gallon. Very hesitant to use it after this debacle. Huge waste of time/money and I regret not using a different product to do it right the first time. Luckily I stopped short of doing the entire boat and only did half the boat. Probably could have boat hydro turf for the entire boat for less money by the time I am finished with this. Irreversible damage done to boat to remove this.
