I bought this to tint epoxy for filling cracks and holes in the top of a table I'm making. Did an awesome job! And since I bought the container and not the little baggie it will probably last me forever since you don't need that much.

Black Diamond Mica Powder

The color pigments are excellent and mix well with Total Boat casting epoxy. Only complaint is the bags they are packaged in are messy to pour or get with spoon. The lip on the bag collects powder and spills out. A jar would be much better.

Nice touch to resin projects.

I like this stuff. It looks really cool in the resin. Gives it a swirly pearlescent look and colors are nice. A little seems to go a long way. I use it in wood and resin turning projects.

Questions

1 - 10 of 12 Questions

Q: I am using G/Flex 655 to repair gel coat scrapes on a NovaCraft TuffStuff Expedition canoe hull. It works well but goes on see-thru clear and thus makes the canoe look like it hasn't been repaired when it acutally has been repaired. Could I judicously add the red pigment to the resin-hardener mix to get some opacity and a better match with the red canoe? I think that I can and for $20 I suppose I should just give it a try. What do you think?

A: Hi there, You can add small amounts of pigment to 655. However, Black Diamond pigments are translucent and shimmery. For a more opaque color that looks closer to a NovaCraft red, take a look at the pigment dispersions: https://www.jamestowndistributors.com/product/product-detail/336440

Q: Where do I find mixing instructions for the Mica Pigments with table top epoxy?

1 Answer

A: Using mica powder is like cooking with your grandmother…  using just a dash or a sprinkle at a time till you achieve just the color desired.  Like some spices a little goes a long way.

Q: Is this product compatible with West System 105/207?

1 Answer

A: Tony, I would recommend you give us a call 1-800-497-0010 as we want to make sure you are using the right epoxy for your desired application. 207 is designed to self level for smooth finishes and to wet-out and bond fabrics. It's also used for laminating veneers where bleed through at joints may be exposed to sunlight. When using pigments most people want to do deeper pours or inlays, 105/207 is not designed for deeper pours, It will take pigment though.

A: No, the pigments are imbedded in the epoxy. There may be some protection below the pigments but the surface is not.
