Product Details

Premium HRT is a new multi-season antifouling paint that replaces Pettit Unepoxy Plus & Ultima SSA. Equally effective on both power and sailboats, this high-copper hybrid paint combines the durability of hard modified finishes with the antifouling effectiveness of ablative paints. Hybrid or hard finishes are great for high performance and trailered boats.

Hybrid Reactive Technology formula utilizes high-density biocide and film modifiers for better color consistency, less yearly build-up (less sanding), and lower finish weight, while providing a smoother finish than traditional paints.

For use on properly prepared fiberglass, wood, and steel hulls. Compatible over most other bottom paints. Contains cuprous oxide; do not use on aluminum.

Available in Gallons, in your choice of Blue, Green, Red, or Black.

Questions

1 - 10 of 10 Questions

Q: I keep my boat in the Halifax River, that has brackish water and an above average tidal influenced current. The boat gets sailed 2 to 3 times a week and I've had incredible barnacles and grass growth in less than a year after using 5 layers of water based ablative coating .will Pettit HRT GIVE ME BETTER RESULTS?

1 Answer

A: Hard to answer that without knowing what the other paint was. I can tell you that Pettit Trinidad is popular in southern waters. Excessive growth can be brought on by several factors. Paint is not as effective if the coats are applied to thin. Above average rainfall leads to nutrient loading. Another common source is stray current from shore power or faulty wiring in the boat's bonding system.

Q: Can it be used on outdrives? What would be the fastest way to get it in Port Lavaca Texas?

1 Answer

A: Hi Jose. Thank you for reaching out. This product can be used on steel and most underwater metals, but it should not be used on outdrives or other underwater parts made of aluminum. Due to the copper content, it is corrosive to aluminum.

Q: Can HRT applied over over Vivid and are the greens fairly close in color

A: I have sold a lot of HRT over the past fews years and have received very little negative feedback. According to the Pettit paint compatibility chart simply sand Vivid with 80 grit and you can apply Premium HRT over it. They are differnt paints so it's likely that the Vivid green is much lighter. You can compare colors at this link: https://doc.jamestowndistributors.com/userportal/pdfs/Pettit/Pettit_Antifouling_Paint_Color_Card_2016.pdf

Q: Can Pettit HTR Premium (Green) be applied over Woosley ablative red on my Bristol 32.? Bottom job completed several years ago using Pettit and Woolsey products. If 2 gallons are ordered, are any additional items included, ie,, rollers, gloves, suit, etc ? Thank you.

A: Previously Painted Surfaces: To paint old hard and ablative antifoulings, thoroughly wipe down the surface with 120 Brushing Thinner, paying particular attention to waterline areas, then sand painted surface with 80 grit sandpaper. Then apply HRT.

Q: I have a wooden swim platform and it was painted with parrot topcoat… I sanded and utilized this paint on my bottom and continue to do the swim platform… Can I also coat the platform with some type of hardening varnish or polyurethane? What would you recommend?

A: Not sure if I would use this paint for a wooden swim platform.. I would use the teak oil or a good water repelling stain and sealer.

Q: Can this be applied over brand new hydrocoat? I put on two new coats and need two more. this is less than hydrocoat so I want to use it if it is compatible. It says multi season so I assume that means I don't have to pull my boat every year to recoat.

1 Answer

A: Give the Hydrocoat a light sanding and you can apply the HRT over it. For multi season paints, you should put on two coats for the first year, and one coat for each additional year.
