Not was I was hoping for

It's not the worst I've used, but it wasn't as advertised either. Lots of micro bubbles even when the directions were followed. I would tell someone to use it if you are using a color, but not if you need it clear

Others Just Don't Match Up

I have tried other epoxies, including the ""low"" fume brands. And they just don't measure up. They low fumes do bother me and I do not get the quality project I get with TotalBoat MakerPoxy. To me, it simply is the best.

Good epoxy!

I have been mixing it with very fine sawdust to fill knotholes in hardwood boards. Sets rock hard, thickness planer cuts it easily. Only problem is my shop runs in the low 60's In the winter and it takes at least 3 days to fully cure. I have used it dyed black as well as it's natural water clear. Very happy with the results.

Love it!!

Easy to use. Since it's thick, don't need as many layers to achieve the look I wanted. The only thing I do t like is the resin has a lot of bubbles before I even mix it with the hardener. Torching does remove them.

Very easy to get great results!

First, you have to know that this epoxy is slow and that is one of the reasons it produces such great results. It gives you plenty of time to do your pour, make any adjustments, corrections, get the color right, etc, before you run out of time. The color accuracy is also very good. I didn't get any color shifting in the two colors I used, one of which was a blend of two colors. It also releases any bubbles easily. The instructions to lightly heat it it a heat gun are good. Any small bubbles accumulated on the surface will dissipate rapidly. And it cures very clear. I've only tried a couple small batches for an inlay project, but I will definitely be using this again!

Great Resin for Florida Heat

Switched from MasEpoxies to TotalBoat MakerPoxy and I like this resin a lot better! It takes a little longer to cure, but since I'm in Florida this one works better in the heat so that's a small sacrifice for more benefit. I also haven't seen much yellowing in pieces that are several months old, especially compared to pieces made with Mas ArtPro. So far I'm think I'm on my 4th gallon of MakerPoxy and still loving it!

Good epoxy

I was excited to give this a try, it's very clear and not a lot of bubbles. However the smell is so bad. I'm very careful when mixing making sure it's equal let's, j wear all of my PPE. After pulling my pieces and it being days later they still have a strong smell. Not sure if this is normal. Otherwise it's a good epoxy.

I would buy if I had a pressure pot

As a jewelry maker, I do like how this resin lasts a bit longer for me to embed materials in it. The working time has been greatly extended. However, the amount of bubbles that I encounter is much worse than other resins (I do not have a pressure pot). It's fun for playing with for now, but I don't think I will reorder. If you have a pressure pot, then this resin might be perfect for you!

I have been doing resin art for 4 years. As I grow with the art I am exploring new avenues. I wanted a resin that would maximizes my ability to produce the coveted cell formation. Total Boat has allowed me to achieve that. I had been using several other resins which did not give me the cells I could achieve with Total Boat. Thank you for an awesome product

Good for slab, countertop or paintings. Too thick for detailed work of smaller pieces. Stays tacky for a longer time. Going back to Environtex Lite.

Questions

Q: null Hi, I'm making skimboards using epoxy but trying to get the showroom finish that poly gives you. Will this work as a hot coat and give me that shine I'm looking for? Also how durable would it be compaired to a regular laminating resin hot coat?

1 Answer

A: Hello, You can use the MakerPoxy for this application, it is a durable product with great shine. Keep in mind that epoxy will yellow in the sun. For UV protection, I would recommend using our Halcyon clear varnish. Good luck with the project!

Q: null Can I spray lacquer over makerpoxy? I put a partial bottom of makerpoxy in a wood bowl and want to finish the bowl with lacquer but not sure if it will work. Should I sand the epoxy first, if so to what grit?

1 Answer

A: Yes you can. The paint manufacturer should have specific instructions for surface prep but I'm guessing you should sand it with 220 or 320 grit.

Q: null I don't understand the difference between MakerPoxy and table top epoxy. Can you help clarify the usage and applications?

2 Answers

A: Both epoxies are food safe. In a nutshell, Makerpoxy is clear uv resistant and made for shallow castings or coatings. Tabletop epoxy is good for slightly deeper coatings or castings, but is not UV resistant so it should be overoated with a UV protective finish such as varnish. For larger jobs, Tabletop is more cost effective. Heres a link to an articLE that may help: https://www.jamestowndistributors.com/page/which-epoxy-should-i-use

A: Hello fellow Jamestown user. I use the maker epoxy. it tends to flow very nicely it's really thin takes a while to set up. It should easily seal a very clean surface. Make sure you mix it for 3 to 5 minutes. I would test a sample board before doing it.

Q: null 12/7/2020 DEAR SIR how long is the shelf life for the: MakerPoxy Crystal Clear Artist Resin

3 Answers

A: Everett, I am actually not sure. I purchased my first set about a month ago, and have yet to use it as the other epoxy is used up. Currently I use the West Systems 105 and 207 hardner for base coats on wooden bowls that have been soaked in Pentacryl to prevent cracking. The West Systems will bond to the wood while other epoxy will not, strange but it works. The issue with the West Systems is that it is impossible to remove the micro bubbles. My finished pieces have up to 10 coats and large coats show bubbles. After 2 coats of West System, I use the Total Boat penetrating epoxy. It leaves a great shine and no bubbles. Good luck Chip Matthews

Q: null Is this product UV resistant? I want to make a laminate sign that will be in the sun all day. What could I coat it with to keep it clear and UV resistant?

1 Answer

A: Hi Bill, You will want to use a Varnish or UV stable urethane to overcoat. Prior to surface preparation remove any amine blush with warm water and a scotch Brite pad, then prep the surface with a light sand. Take a look Halycon, it is a quick building, fast drying water-based varnish that doesn't require sanding between coats. https://www.jamestowndistributors.com/userportal/show_product.do?pid=336256.
