Product Details

Toplac Plus is the long-awaited return of Interlux's classic Toplac topside finish, with an all-new formula designed to let you achieve a professional-looking finish using just a roller. Skip the tipping part of topside painting, and get a smooth, hard high gloss finish you'll be proud of. Toplac Plus features excellent flow and leveling characteristics, especially when applied over recommended Interlux Pre-Kote Plus primer.

Its advanced formula features powerful UV protection to fight finish fade. Get longer lasting gloss and color retention than Brightside and similar marine paints. 2-3 Coats are recommended for most applications, but no sanding between coats necessary, saving time.

Use this finish anywhere above the waterline: hulls, decks, cabins, and trim. Available in a wide range of vibrant colors. All colors are available in Quarts. Snow White and Mediterranean White are also available in Gallons.

Toplac Plus is Interlux's replacement for popular Brightside Polyurethane marine paint. Brightside is no longer available, having been discontinued by Interlux.

Q: Top coat plus - whaler blue - in stock / price? How much needed for deck and interior ? Will it hold up on the non skid deck of a 13' BW 1970 that I've prepped ? Or do I HAVE to go to a 2 part ??

1 Answer

A: Click on the drop down menu and select the color you want to see price and availability. One quart will cover @ 100 square feet with one coat and 2 - 3 coats are recommended. It is generally not recommended to paint over nonskid with a one part or two part paint. It's difficult to prep for proper adhesion, the paint is too thick in the valleys and too thin on the peaks, and the nonskid texture is diminished. Best practice is to sand the nonskid level and apply a paint with a nonskid aggregate to give it texture. Interlux offers an additive called Intergrip for this purpose. Q: I may have mis read label regarding thinner? I did prekote plus and one coat of toplac plus. After 2 days at 60F I did some 400 grit sanding and used a very saturated paper towel with Y233N thinner. The area where thinner ""sat"" up thinner had a reaction and peeled off a little bit. It just lifted a bunch of bits of paint without rubbing into it. Hopefully it wasn the whole project. Am I suppose to clean sanding residue with the other brushing liquid instead of y2333n which is only for ""cleaning up"" rather than prepping area?

A: I am used to the old, 2 part epoxy. I believe within 24 hrs of coating, no sanding was needed for re coating. I used the required thinner. I had no problems. I sanded nothing. I do know that, that thinner is very strong. It will cut paint that was dry a long time ago. From what i read from others, is that little to no thinner works better than using more than needed or what the directions say. So, my only advise is to use it sparringly, unless its really warranted by extream temps or humidity. In your case, if I had it to do again.... wait another day to dry. Sand very lightly and use a new tack rag or clean micro towel. Lay off using thinner in your tack towel completely. Joseph F. Austin 3570 Barratts Chapel Road, Frederica, DE 19946 (302)-670-2633 (C)

Q: I'm looking for ""Sea Green Y4247"" to match a Cabo Rico - how is the ""donegal"" different?

A: Total Boat Sea Green is the same or nearly the same as the old Brightsides Sea Green. Toplac Donegal is much darker.

Q: How hard is it when compared to Perfection? I was going to use Perfection on my hull because I have found it to have good abrasion resistance. I would not use Brightside on a fiberglass hull because I have found it to be too soft to hold up when the boat rubs against a launch or dock.

A: Toplac is an improvement, but more comparable to Brightside than Perfection. For a more durable two part finish take a look at Awlgrip or Epifanes two part poly.

Q: Do these paint products provide Ultraviolet damage protection?

1 Answer

A: Yes. The paint itself will gradually degrade over time so recoats will be required, but since it is opaque very little UV will make it past the outer layer.

A: Thank you for reaching out. Unfortunately, it is not currently available to us and we don't have an ETA on getting it from Interlux. If you are in a pinch and cannot find it, we have whaler blue in Totalboat Wet Edge and Epifanes 2 part Polyurethane

Q: Besides the non skid areas, would you recommend this product for deck and cabin top?

1 Answer

A: It is a gloss paint so it will be slick if you don't add an aggregate to it, such as Interlux Polymeric Nonskid Compound.
