Product Details

Core-Cell Foam is a 5.0 lb. per cubic foot density foam sheet ideal for hand lay-up applications. Using this structural mold is a cost-effective solution to reduce the amount of resin needed and save time during the lay-up process. It surpasses all previous limits of stiffness, impact strength and temperature resistance to prevent heat distortion.

Core-Cell is the first structural foam designed specifically for the marine industry, and uses new SAN polymers rather than conventional PVC formulas derived from 1930's technology. Corecell A500 has a similar density to Corecell A550, with only 0.5 lb/cubic ft difference.

Available in 2 x 4 ft, 4 x 4 ft and 4 x 8 ft sheets. 4' X 8' sheets must be picked up at our location or shipped via a common carrier.

Info & Guides

Core-Cell foam has better handling and machining characteristics, does not out-gas and is compatible with all resin types.

Being closed cell, Core-Cell adds safety, comfort and reassurance to ocean going vessels and reduces condensation through insulation.

Core-Cell is preferred by professional builders and has an excellent reputation with amateurs for being easy to form around tight curves, but stiff enough to strip plank between temporary frames.

Adequate core replacement

Product cuts well, score it and break it along the lines. Make sure you saturate the core well with unthickened epoxy and bed it well in thickened epoxy. The core will not rot, but it will debond if not properly prepared as mentioned. It is not as good as coosa board for load areas, I use them together as required.

A great fix for a soggy core!

I used this to replace some waterlogged plywood core on my sliding deck hatch. I was easy to cut and flexed to accommodate the slight bow in the hatch cover. A few sandbags held it in place while the epoxy cured. The hatch is as strong as it was before but much lighter. I am going to tackle other soggy core projects now that I found this!

Core-Cell for Soft Deck Repair

Your comment system is daunting. Core-cell is fantastic for beefing up soft decks and cabin trunks where water has rotted balso or plywood. With the voids cleaned out and filled with the foam, the result is a laminate strength probably better than ""as manufactured"". I have also made bulkheads of two sheets of Kytex with Core-Cell sandwiched inside.Tricky to work with, expensive, but worth it, unquestionably. JD's prices are fair for this item.

Q: null What is the max temperature on this foam l? I'm planning on using it as the core of a tiller, with prepreg carbon fiber and curing at 160-180C. Does the material deform at those temps? What is its flash point?

A: Max thermo forming temperature is 185 degrees. Flash point is not given. Check out this link for more tech info: https://www.gurit.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/structuralcoreprocessingguidere-2.pdf

Q: null Could the A500 be the right core material choise to build a cockpit hardtop, using polyester resin to reinforce it with fiberglass? How many layers of fiberglass should be applied to get a a strong structure. Thanks for your answer.

A: polyester is fine with this core. I would spend a little more money and use epoxy instead of the polyester .Unless you already have polyester   Easier to use and very accurate to catalyze.  readily sandable for finishing with epoxy primer and urethane top coat Showstopper Wax Products 9444 Mission Park Place, Santee, CA 9207***.****office ***.****fax www.showstopperwax.com

Q: null I am purchasing a Fortier 26 with a Core-Cell hull, (including the bottom). I will be keeping the boat on a lift in Florida. Does the Core-Cell deform in high heat conditions>

1 Answer

A: I believe Fortier uses Airex core. Stringers and bulkheads keep the boat's shape. The only reason a hull would deform is if the keel is not properly supported. The weight of the boat should be resting on the bottom of the keel. with the side supports acting as balance points near the chine.

Q: null I have a 1973 Cape Dory Typhoon. The balsa core of the aft deck where the outboard motor mount bracket is located has been rotted out by moisture and needs to be replaced. I know others have used marine plywood for the same repair. I wanted to stay away from wood and was wondering if this Core-Cell A500 is strong enough for that application?

A: If you are using epoxy for your repair you could also consider using g10 fiberglass board as core material under the motor mount and other areas where high load hardware is screwed down or through-bolted. https://www.jamestowndistributors.com/product/product-detail/8758

Q: null why so crazy expensive to ship the A500 core cell!?!?!? $48 to ship1/8X24X48 ($38)

1 Answer

A: It costs more money to ship large items. Companies who offer lower shipping costs for objects this size either roll shipping costs into product price, or are large enough companies to negotiate with UPS/USPS. This required mega volume. at $48 dollars, no small company is making money on shipping. [image: photo] Timothy Sullivan Phone: (619) < (619)+647-3***.****

Q: null I'm replacing my flybridge deck on my trawler. I'm looking for a marine grade foam core to be used as a core to be put on the deck, instead of wood. Would you be able to laminate fiberglass cloth over it? I'm interested in the core-cell a500 plain foam sheets. I would like to use bi-axial 1708 cloth to laminate the foam. Would I be able to use this for a core for my deck? Thank you in advance for your time! Jim Ives Essex,Maryland

Q: null What is the color of the foam is it WHITE or the slightly yellow color shown in the image? Is it possible to get a 2' x 4' sheet cutdown into 12"" x 12"" squares for shipment in a USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate box as that would be the cheapest way to get it to Hawaii and I don't need lrger sheets?

A: It's the slightly yellow color... not sure about getting it cut for shipping. It can be cut, I guess you would have to have somebody do it.
