Q: null Can this withstand the heat generated from an engine? I want to use it to filter anti-freeze before it enters the heater core on my Jeep? I would plumb it into a heater hose and leave it there. Thanks.

A: I Don't know the answer to your question. I use this filter to protect my water pressure pump on a trawler yacht, and would not expect this mostly plastic item to handle engine coolant. It works fine to clear debris from my water tank, but that's very different from your proposed use. You'll have to call Jabsco for a truly knowledgable answer.

Q: null should the strainer be mounted with the clear cup and strainer above or below the hose?

A: Doesn't really matter, IMHO, but cup on top may be easier to see, cup mounted below is dryer when removing and cleaning the filter screen. The cup catches 90% of the water - if that matters. Mine has functioned very well with the cup mounted above the hose.

Q: null Does this unit want to be mounted with the filter portion facing UP or DOWN? As silly as it is most want the filter down but this one is designed differently.

A: A provocative question. This was a replacement filter so I placed it the reverse of the picture [filter screen down] as had been done by the boat builder. I recognize that does not make it always right. I am open to a scientific approach to the design so I understand this correctly.
