Drain Tubes Work Well
The tubes are great and good value. The tool to put them in right is expensive, relative to the cost of the tubes. Think of it this way, though. For <$50 I have two very nice transom drain tubes in my sailboat now. I'm happy.

Very good quality brass tubes

You will need a Flanging tool in order to install the tube. The flanging tool instructions which came with the tool and the instructions on this site are misleading and incomplete so I would suggest searching the internet forums for worthwhile help.

Q: will the 1 inch brass drain tubes work in a 1.08 existing hole in my boat.

A: I think you need to size the drain tubes with the moeller tool. There are videos about the tool and how to customize the drain tube. Professional charter captain

Q: Hi, I need to replace the Moeller drain tube that goes vertically through the hull of my sailboat, from the deck of the boat to the water. I was surprised to find that the existing old drain tube was flanged only on the deck side. It was straight on the hull/water side. This seems strange to me -- seems to me that it should have been flanged on the water/hull side, too. That would be safer, no? Is it standard to NOT flange it on the bottom? I guess in this case you would simply secure the outside of the tube to the hull with sealant/epoxy and hope for the best... Grateful for any advice about flanging or not flanging... Thanks, A.S. NYC

Q: I am restoring a 1969 Boston Whaler Nauset (the 16' one). I need to replace the four drain tubes (the long one in the ""bilge"" area that goes out the bottom of the transom, the two in the splashwell and the one in the anchor locker. Can you advise which brass tubes to order and which flanging tool i will need? Thanks, Henry

A: You will need to measure the diameter of the hole to ensure the diameter of the tube will fit. The tube length can be cut to suit, so if in doubt order it longer than you need. Be sure to allow 1/4"" extra in length to make the flare. The flare tool is ordered by tube diameter. For example a nominal 1"" plug fits in a 1"" I.d. Hole and requires 1 1/4 "" o.d. tube and flaring tool. If the transom is 2 1/2 "" wide you need a tube that is longer than 2 3/4"" so you can cut it to length. Just take care to cut square. The flaring tool comes with decent directions. Bed the tube in 5200 adhesive sealant. Hope this helps.

Q: Is there an O ring to use on the side that is flanged? Or do you flange it directly against the transom? I installed one in a 22 whaler a few years ago and it incuded two o rings for each end of the tube. If one is required, what size? Thanks.

A: It doesn't come with an oring, you would use caulking on a fiberglass application.

Q: Want to replace thru hull, drains on sail boat. I.D. hole thru hull (transom) is 1 5/8"". Boat is Catalina. Looks like they used brass tubes and flange to flair end on both ends. Flairs have broken off and Im concerned about water infiltration into hull. New boats use plastic and 1"" hole size. Do you have tubes this 1 5/8"" and flange tool? Thanks
