Product Details

Sika 291 is a fast-cure marine adhesive/sealant that bonds well to wood, metals, painted surfaces, and most plastics. Boat builders and marine technicians use this all-purpose adhesive for a variety of marine applications. Safe to use above and below the waterline. Use the marine-grade sealant to bond structural boat components, create waterproof seals, and reduce vibration impact.

Polyurethane sealant comes with a nozzle to easily apply. Cure times depend on caulk thickness and ambient weather, but typically cures within 1 to 4 days for watertight seal. The fast strength build-up can then be painted and sanded for final touches. Available in black and white.

NOTE: SIK-291201W is a 20oz. Sausage Pack, which is NOT compatible with standard caulking guns.

    Excellent Caulk

This is an excellent caulk, and a light duty adhesive. I like that it's not permanent like other 3M caulks. However, this stuff makes a great seal between surfaces, and really keeps out the water. Quite sticky though, and you need mineral spirits to clean up. The only thing I don't like is using half the 10 oz tube, because by the time I need it again, it hardens up in the tube and the nozzle within a few days. Fortunately they do sell this in 3 oz tubes, that have a screw cap, since I use this in small quantities.

Using it on below water-line seams on a1936 Chris Craft cruiser. Easy to work with but MUST use latex or vinyl gloves, long sleeves, etc. It can get quite messy! Found it to be sandable after curing, very helpful in fairing rough bottom areas.

    Good sealant with many applications

Great product for bedding and sealing hardware above and below the waterline. A good medium strength polyurethane and comes in colors. It doesn't have any UV propertiesand if that's a requirement pay to exposed aera with a UV sealant.

    Questions

Q: I received the SikaFlex White 291, 3-0z tube in my order (#S4145064), and half the tube was solid, and would not squeeze out the nozzle. This made it very difficult to squeeze out any caulk from the tube. I did manage to get maybe 1/2 oz squeezed out, but the remaining caulk is worthless. How can I get another tube of this caulk that is not hard inside?

    1 Answer

A: The tube should have a batch number and possibly an expiration date or date of manufacture. Please email a photo of the batch and date to info@JamestownDistributors.com. Be sure to include your order number.

Q: We have aluminum framed bi-fold shower doors that were screwed and caulked to the teak frame of the shower opening. The original caulk appears to be silicone and it was beginning to leak between the frame and the wood. I've removed door, cleaned off the old caulk and am looking for a recommendation on what caulk to use for the reinstall. The caulk/sealant is not just a bead on the inside face of the frame to wood joint. It is also used as bedding between the frame and the wood.

    1 Answer

A: Sika 291 would be a good adhesive for this application. You may also want to use Sika Akivator to clean the substrates, 215 primer for the wood and 206G+P for the aluminum.

Q: Can I use this to seal my lapstrakes on my 57 Lyman as an added precaution, or what do you recommend. I bought you fairing compound and epoxy sealer. Thanks

A: The Sikaflex 291 is not so much a ""coating"" but a bonding agent to adhere plexiglass, fiberglass, metal, wood, whatever together extremely well. Especially when used with the Sikaflex cleaner and primer system. -----------------------------------------From: ""Jamestown Distributors""

A: been using Sikaflex for 30 years now--IT IS THE BEST--best way to do a job is to tape out the area--push the edges down well--this will give you a professional look--if you smudge use lacquer thinner

Q: how difficult is it to remove this product and does it remain flexible when cured ?

    5 Answers

A: I did not try to remove it so cannot answer that question it is tough to remove from your hands so wear latex gloves. I found this to be a great product. It does stay flexible. I used it to repair long cracks in the bottom of my Coleman canoe. After the Sikaflex dried I went over that with construction adhesive to make the repair more durable. I have not had a leak since although you need to reapply the construction adhesive from time to time as it tends to start peeling off.

Q: Can this be used to seat and seal a forward deck window on a Hunter 295?

    4 Answers

A: I would say yes. I used it to reseal the side ports on my boat and it's held up nice and watertight for several years now. 3m's 5200 makes a tighter seal, but the window could never be removed again. I found this product to make just as good a waterproof seal, but you can remove it if necessary. One thing I have to stress though, is make sure that all surfaces are good and clean and free from wax. I used lacquer thinner to get rid of any oil, etc...

Q: Can this be used to seal hull seams in an old wooden boat? I am looking to seal the oily, problem areas lower and near the stern. I would use 5200 but I am looking for something less expensive and less permanent.

A: Sikaflex is caulking, i.e. flexible to accommodate the wood planks swelling when immersed. I have used it on Beetle Cats to replace old fiber caulking, with good results. I have read that sealing seams tight before immersion can result in increasing the gaps, by preventing the wood planks from swelling. Pay attention to clean oil off any surface to ensure good adhesion.
