Product Details

3M 4200 Fast Cure is a one-part general purpose polyurethane sealant with fast curing and good adhesion to wood, fiberglass, gelcoat, plastic, and metal. When cured, 4200 forms weather-resistant, watertight seals on joints and boat hardware above or below the waterline. Designed to endure marine conditions, maintain joint movement, and absorb shock caused by swelling, shrinking, or shock. Ideal for sealing portholes, deck and hull fittings, screw holes, and other marine applications.

4200FC is easy to paint and sand after full cure. While 3M 5200 sealant results in permanent bonds, 4200 has approximately half the strength, making it a good choice for applications where the bond may need to be broken in the future such as replacing hardware.

Size displayed is 10 oz. cartridge. Choose white or black and either 3oz and 10 oz cartridge sizes.

Fast cure 4200 had hardened in the tube when received.

I ordered 3 tubes of this sealant and the sealant is so hard it cannot be squeezed from the tube. Useless. Waste of money.

Beware this product

Purchased this product and after opening the cap it would not dispense properly, it appeared to be a very old tube or defective in some other way....bottom line, it was unusable.

I would buy this again for certain projects

This product worked well for my application, installing a centerboard gasket on my Mutineer dinghy. It was highly recommended as this gasket will need to be replaced sometime in the future as it will wear over time and use. 3M 4200 is a great product for adhesion especially for an item that may need to be removed at a later date.

NOTICE: Contents will harden in tube in 24 hrs after opening

Buyer Beware: NOTICE: label says: ""Adhesive sealant must be used within 24 hours after inner seal is punctured"". If you just need a little bit, then you've wasted the rest of the contents of the tube and $22. Also, note that the tube is made of metal and the one I received was dented in, making it unusable in a chalk gun. I'm going to return it. Thankfully, I bought this one on Amazon.com

Worked perfectly!

First, Jamestown has the best prince! I used this to adhere aluminum skin to the side of wooden trailer and it worked perfectly. I have no complaints for its performance, what so ever. The only thing you need to what is that once you open, there is not a easy way to keep remainder from hardening. The best thing to do is to plan ahead and use full tube all at once. There are a few more things I need to mount, so I will be ordering soon.

Avoiding mess with 3M adhesives

These are great products and yes, if you allow it, they will get messy. When using these products: Choose the right product for the application! 5200 will yellow in the sun. Tape off area, give yourself room, make your lines straight. Put on gloves. Don't over fill, you will just have to wipe more off. Wipe the end of the tube with a paper towel when you pull it away Don't over tighten fasteners, you want to leave some adhesive between surfaces and finish tightening after cure. Wipe off excess, a little at a time to avoid smearing. Wipe down with Multi purpose cleaner or acetone for a clean smooth finish, remove tape after surface cures.

What a mess!

I was using this product to bed and seal new jib tracks. When applying a 'dab', product was extremely stringy. Wind blown strands had to be cleaned off the hull and track. The air temperature was in the low 80's F. Also, the product appeared to set up much too quickly. I don't know if this was a defective batch since this was the first time I used this product.

Q: If I have a small job, and for example, I have 1/3 of a tube left. Can I seal the tube for later use in 2-3 weeks?

A: Can't say for certain on 4200 but I can get 5200 to last a week or two after opening if I cover the end of the applicator very tightly with vinyl electrical tape. Try to keep air from reaching the compound.

Q: Does 3M 4200 sealant come in clear or white only and do you stock a smaller size. And/or how long will the product keep. I am only installing a new inspection port, drain bung assembly and replacing fairlead and a cleat with eyepad mounts for blocks and a double cam cleat on my laser. (white hull/deck) Previous repairs by others white sealent was used and it has a yellowish dirty tint to it. Seems like the clear would be a better choice?

A: it comes in white and black only 3 oz white and 10 oz tubes white and black.
