Really well made seacock.

I'm replacing all the seacocks on a Bristol 40, this one is for the head discharge. These are excellent seacocks, very well made, solid construction.

Quality Part

I installed this seacock and thru hull in my sail boat with little problems. This is a great unit. Sturdy and solid. Much better thah the flimsy plastic units found on many production sailboats. And it's cheaper. I used a 3/4"" plywood backing plate between the seacock and the hull with ss bolts imbedded in the plate for mounting the seacock. The thru hull fitting screws right into the seacock sandwiching the hull and backing plate together for a firm water tight installation. It should out last me.

Very solidly built / excellent quality

I replaced a 36 year old thru-hull and gate valve set up with a Groco seacock and thru-hull. It is exactly what you would want in a seacock- solid, durable construction. If it installed itself it would be even better, but installation was a snap. I'd recommend taking the time to make a good backer plate. I fixed some brass nuts into a plywood disk with resin, then coated the whole disk to help prevent rot. On the advice of the boatyard, I Sikaflexed it in, rather than glassed it, as eventually the plate will need replacing (many years down the road). You get what you pay for with this product.

Questions

1 - 6 of 6 Questions

Q: Can this be used with a scoop strainer pickup mounted on bottom of aluminum boat. Needing to plumb a bait well, not fond of the idea putting a plastic pump suction through the transom or floor.

A: Bronze and aluminum are not compatible metals. You can use a Forespar marelon through hull and ball valve. https://www.jamestowndistributors.com/userportal/show_product.do?pid=4351

Q: I have 10 FBV seacocks of which several were replaced by Groco in 2008 due to inferior materials. Now I have several more that the brass or bronze stem will swivel with no ball movement. I believe the housing castings are OK and would like to spare the task of removing the entire FBV and only replace the working parts (ball, seals and stem). I would carry replacement guts for 3/4__quote__, 1.25__quote__ and 2__quote__ Please advise? Bruce Kinsey
