Beautiful finish

If you want a high gloss finish that's easy to apply this polyurethane is the one. The prep is the key to a really hard cover.

Expensive

I used this for a swim platform. I purchased a luhrs 342 tournament the swim platform was cracked and had stains on it. I used epoxy resin for the repair and quickly discovered that gelcoat does not bond to it. After consulting Jamestown they recommended an epoxy bottom paint for a primer and eppifane Alpine white everything went well however the two part epoxy doesn't go far especially when 3 coats are required. I also applied a non skid surface to the first wet coat of polyurethane, with two coats on top of that. ( I needed 2 cans)All in all it looks great

very hard paint. difficult to brush

For a professional who sprays, it would be great. I opted to brush and am an amateur. I have sprayed piano finishes so am not totally inept. Trying to brush, getting the right amount of thinner, was tough, as it dries quick so consistency changed quickly making brush thinning frequent. It either ran if too thin, or sagged if thick on vertical surfaces. My end result looked very good if one stood back 10 feet or so. Up close, it looked like a brush job. The black I used on a section also bled through the blue painters tape onto the white boat color, so that made more work. Bottom line, great for a spraying pro, I would use a one part instead for a brush job.

Used with our wooden bathtub!

We used this along with the total boat epoxy primer to refinish a mahogany wooden soaking tub. It was easy for these amateurs to use and the tub looks and worked great. So glad we discovered it! Thank you.

Great product, great support

I purchased Epiphanes two part poly to restore the hull of a vintage rowing craft. Though I have painted many things, this was my first time doing a fine boat hull kind of project. I was weary of using a roller to achieve a flawless surface. It turned out far better than my expectations. My friends thought I took the boat to a custom shop. Let's keep that part our secret. Jamestown was fantastic with their assistance. Next stop, boat number two.

Good stuff but remember is 750ml and not a quart

Bought this to paint a small fiberglass console and my transom. It looks great after two coats, and I didn't need to tip - just rolling is fine. However, you only get 750 ml which is both cans combined, so it's a little shocking when you open the large can of paint and see it's barely 1/2 full. In theory this covers 100sf, but I didn't come close to that.

Q: How many square meters does a can of epifanes 750ml top side polyurethane paint cover?

A: I have a 21 foot Robalo 2120 and one can covered the topside of the hull and whole rear transom perfectly. Literally to the drop of paint lol. In case anyone has a boat similar to mine. Enough for one layer.

Q: I'm interested in the Epifanes two part Polyurethane but the color choices shown on you website are limited. Especially in the greens. Are there more colors?

A: Epifanes does offer more colors but JD's inventory is limited to the most popular ones. As Steven Wright said, ""You can't have everything...where would you put it?""

A: What's the question? Is it 'Is this paint available in Boston Whaler Blue?' I don't know, I'm not in control of what Epifanes does. I bought white.

A: Hey Harold, Thank you for reaching out. Unfortunately we no longer have the custom colors for the Epifanes 2 part paint. The closest option in their standard colors would be the pu800

Q: How long do i have to wait between the primer and the topcoat? Also do i have to sand the primer?

A: Hey Oscar, Thank you for reaching out. It depends whether you are talking about the poly or epoxy primer. A good rule of thumb is 24 hours, sand and clean and apply paint. Q: If the entire contents is not used the first time, what is the mixing ratio?

2 Answers

A: Mix ratio is by weight, not volume per Epifanes because each color has a slightly different density.

Q: Can Epiphanes 2 part polyurethane be applied over Petit EZ-Poxy that had the Petit activator added? I have painted about 1/3 of the boat interior sides with Petit EZ-Poxy and find it is too soft. Scratches very easily. The Epiphanes will also be easier to apply multiple coats as it does nor require sanding between coats as long as the recoat is done within the 24 hr recoat window.

A: Hi... I can't answer this specific question but I've used this product twice and liked it; good durable finish.  I used it over exiting 29 year old gelcoat and it worked great nice coverage, leveled out well (hard to tell it was rolled out), and durable.  The issue I had with the first attempt, actually used it 3x, the 2nd was a re-do.  The first attempt I found the finish a bit dull and it wasn't as durable. After re-re-re-reading the directions it hit me that the mix ratio given is not volume, it's weight just like you're mixing paint for a vehicle. Obvious once it hit me.  Good luck with your project.... Capt. Russ

Q: Hi, we are about to use this on a fiberglass camper. Just wondering about the smell and how long we need to wait before going camping.

5 Answers

A: Hard to know about the smell.? We used it on both sides of a restored walnut exterior door.? There was odor during application, of course, but I do not recall any odor after it cured. Now, I wasn't sleeping next to the door, either. It was an easy product to mix and apply and the door no longer swells during high humidity / wetness.
