Best inflatable bottom paint ever!

This is absolutely the best bottom paint for your gray or white inflatable. Who would ever want black paint for their gray inflatable anyway. It went on smoothly and so far is protecting from growth. I applied two coats following the directions for drying time.

My inflatable stays in the water all summer and this hard to find bottom paint does a great job of protecting it from barnacles.

The Jury is still out

I bought this product for my 10' inflatable dinky which stay in the water all season. The quart arrived in a timely fashion and we commenced painting as soon as the weather allowed. First thing we noticed was that the paint was much thicker than other bottom paints I've used. The next thing we noticed was ""clumps"" in the paint. We stirred and stirred and I even tried squeezing the clumps with the stirring stick but I couldn't work them out. So we went ahead and started applying the paint. It soon became apparent that we would not have enough paint for two coats, so following recommendations on the can we added a little water thinned it out some. This helped but we wound up using every last drop and still didn't quite get the coverage in the second coat. Proof is in the pudding so with the boat on the water for 2 weeks now we will see how well it works.

Do not buy!

This inflatable paint was terrible. I would not reccomend purchasing. It was difficult to mix and I was not able to get solid chunks disolved. The consistency was very off. I am still unsure if it will even be able to protect the boat. Waste of money!

I would never buy this again

The contents were dry as a solid. Took forever to try to mix it up . Even then it was still lumpy! After 12 hours of drying time it would wipe off by simply rubbing it. Very dissatisfied!

Effective and easy to use.

Now my 4th season of using this on my Achilles lightweight RIB that is kept in Lake Erie. This paint made a huge difference in bottom fouling in a warm fresh-water harbor. Almost no weeds and reduced slime. It's very thick, so you have to mix for a long time, then pour out enough to use and thin with water (less than 10%) to reduce viscosity so you can get a thin enough coat. Good adhesion on both the Neoprene and on the plastic bottom. I prepped last two years with a scotchbrite and house scrub detergent, and it seems like I'm not getting a build-up.

Bad or old batch?

Feels like the quart I received was dated and sitting on the shelf for some time. Paint was very thick (even after shaking and stirring) and contained small paint chips that spread on the bottom of my RIB. I would expect better QC, especially for the price that I paid.

Lumpy paint. More white than grey.

Paint had some small lumpy things. I used a professional paint mixer/shaker before opening. The color was closer to white than the grey color shown on label. It was the only ""inflatable "" paint I could find.

Used this product for two years with great results. I leave my inflatable in the water for 7 months and the marine growth is minimal.

No more barnacles

The ablative paint went on easily and two coats covered my 9' boat very well. After two weeks in salt water I can see no marine growth. Earlier this season, before using this paint, two weeks in the water produced hundreds of small barnacles and assorted other sea stuff.

Q: Will this bottom paint work on a RIB? For use on the fiberglass hull as well as the Hypalon tubes?

6 Answers

A: Yes. This paint is very similar to our JD Select paint, but has added flexibility to accommodate the flex and even rolling up of the inflatable tubes. So yes, it's perfectly fine to apply to fiberglass as well. For aluminum RIB applications, you would want to use a paint that does not have a copper biocide, or prime first with Aluminum Boat Barrier Coat over any aluminum surfaces prior to applying any antifouling. It will work on PVC, Hypalon, or rubber tubes.

Q: Can this product be applied indoors with good ventilation ?

9 Answers

A: This product has pretty low VOCs due to the waterborne nature, with good ventilation it should not be that bad. Once the water and co-solvents evaporate, it has more smell than house paint, but not all that much. It is very quick drying as well.

Q: could this be used to paint the top side and does it have more durability than MDR inflatable product ?

8 Answers

A: This product has copper as a biocide and is not meant for inflatable topsides. As far as durability goes, it is not a hard paint to allow for the flexibility of inflatable tubes. So if you drag your inflatable up the the beach a few times, it will wear away in those spots.
