Product Details

Teakdecking Systems caulk is essential for proper teak deck maintenance on your boat. The one-part, paste-like oxime cure system forms a tough, flexible solid rubber compound when exposed to the air. This helps waterproof and weatherproof teak decks in both hot and cold climates.

Used primarily for caulking teak boat decks, Teakdecking caulk is a thixotropic material that does not sag during cure. Once fully cured, the formula offers excellent temperature stability and chemical resistance through multiple seasons. The flexible caulk won't cause the wood to buckle as it naturally expands and contracts in a marine environment.

Because the sealant is neutral cure, it is non-corrosive to all substrates. Available in black, white, and gray. Buy as singles or 12 packs. See DATA SHEETS for more information on application and a coverage chart.

Not cheap, but it's does the job

We use this frequently for caulking on megayachts. It's pretty expensive but it works well and if properly applied will last for many years. Very important to push it into the seams to get the air out, and leave the seam proud, as it shrinks a little when it dries

Great Deck Caulking

I recently completed re-seaming the deck on my 44' sailboat when an alternative product began deteriorating and turning to mud on my deck ( a job that was done about 10 years ago). I have over 1000' of seams and went through around 40 tubes. The TDS product flowed easily, has a great consistency, and tooled well. I took the advice of a few people and used a quality electric caulking gun and heated the tubes in water before application, both were very helpful. It's too new of a job to prove that this caulking will not break down in time, but I have inspected lots of TDS decks over the years and have not seen the deterioration issues that plagued my deck. A great product.

Incredible!

I made a mahogany top for a table on my dock and wanted it to tie into my ChrisCraft. After reviewing I decided to go with this and after actually reading the instructions it was super easy to use. After 24 hours to cure I sanded the entire surface and applied oil. Couldn't be happier with the results!

Q: Can you paint the caulk another color?

1 Answer

A: Here is what TDS states: NOTE: Paint and varnish do not adhere to caulking. After sanding caulking, be sure to thoroughly clean any surrounding surfaces that are to be painted with solvents to remove contaminants. Test surfaces before painting.

Q: Hi, will this Caulk work with Composite Decking? I have a section of deck thats been tough to prevent leaking to the below area. I have been debating 100% Silicone or this. I want to recess it below the deck board surface about half way. Thank you.

1 Answer

A: TDS caulking information doesn't mention anything about using it on a composite decking material. I would recommend trying a small area first to see if it works well.

Q: I have an attached sunroom off my new house that has Brazilian cherry Decking the room is fully glass enclosed and insulated below the deck. I want to fill the seams to child proof from crumbs getting in the cracks and spilled milk. 2 questions. Once fully cured how hard is it. Curious about sweeping up crumbs. Also I have 25 seams 24 feet long averaging 5/32 wide how much would I need?

A: Hello I used tds to caulk my teak seams on my boat and I think it would be satisfactory for your purposes somewhat pliable but not that soft. I really don't know how much caulk you need and maybe the manufacturer can help you. You don't want to be stuck with too many extra tubes as it's quite expensive. I can assure you if you use it for teak deck seams it's the absolute best. I wonder if Jamestown will offer discount on large purchases as I need more ha. Tips tape up the wood to the seam and apply enough to fill the gap with the caulk sitting proud of the surface then run your putty knife across the caulk to smooth it out before the caulk has a chance to skin over. You can skip the putty knife option and belt or random orbit sand the caulk be sure it sets up before sanding. Good luck

Q: is it coat able, ie varnish? what is the cure time? these are things that should be in the description! Mike kismarine@msn.com

1 Answer

A: TDS doesn't recommend applying any finish on top of the caulk. Cure time on the black is a minimum of 48 hours, White and Gray is 8 - 12 days.

Q: I have a varnished teak toerail (about 1"" high) that is adjacent to a black rubber (?) rubrail along the outer edge of the hull. The toerail was originally bedded in some reddish-brown material, which has chipped out in places. (I'm not going to rebed the whole toerail this year!) Looking for some kind of caulk that won't draw a white line between the teak & the black rubber rubrail, for the visual aspect... would this TDS product be appropriate?

2 Answers

A: Not sure how well the caulk would bond to the rubrail or to the remaining bedding material. Certainly works in joints between teak. Suggest you buy a tube and try...

A: I redid the entire decks of a 41 foot island trader ketch including all hatches, 3 years ago. So far so good. Still a good bond in spite of the horrific heat we sometimes have here in Louisiana. Deck temperatures often get up to 160°F.

Q: Can you varnish over the deck caulking.Appled 1coat on hatch and caulking appears sticky. If not varnish can you epoxy over same.I am doing if brightwork on hatch.

5 Answers

A: Paul, I caulked a wood (teak) hatch cover like you appear to be doing. I also varnished, and had no problems. If your caulk is sticky then it hasn't cured long enough. I used Petit Flagship varnish, but I can't imagine another varnish would have a different effect. Also check the date on the caulk tube. The caulk will gradually harden in the tube given sufficient time, so therefore their 'use by' date, although I've used their caulk after the expiry with good results. Hope this helps. Scott

Q: Do I need more than one tube for four grooves 9 ft long and two grooves 8 ft long. The depth is 3/16"". These are for covering boards on my 1986 24 ft Rampage. First time replacing calk.

5 Answers

A: One tube is enough. Be sure to THOROUGHLY clean out the old caulk, sand the sides 80 grit or rougher. Use a 3M fine line tape for a bond breaker on the bottom of the joint. Tape the top face of the boards on both sides to the edge to minimize sanding afterward. Peel the tape after the top skims over, maybe an hour or so after caulking. Give it at least 24 hours to cure before sanding. More cure time won't hurt. I have sanded up to 2 weeks later without issues. Last step before caulking is to vacuum and apply a brush coat of acetone in the groove. Once it drys, caulk away! TDI makes a great water based sealer for teak. Keeps it looking great and makes it easy to clean
