Product Details

Teakdecking Systems TDS Bonding Epoxy (FE180A) is a custom blend of high quality epoxy resins, activators and additives formulated for outstanding adhesion to common marine substrates such as fiberglass, wood, aluminum and steel.

Developed as a 'tough' adhesive capable of enduring the flexing yachts undergo at sea, FE180A has special additives that enhance internal strength, bond strength and viscosity control under a variety of adverse environmental conditions. Its primary purpose is to achieve a high strength bond to less than perfectly prepared substrates. TDS Fitting Epoxy is also D.O.T. (US Dept. Of Transportation) certified to be non-corrosive and is designed not to harm the environment.

Questions

Q: null I am planning on gluing down new teak decking strips to my sailboat's subdeck. I will be doing this using the old ""stick built"" method (not vacuum bagging an entire panel) so will be working with one strip at a time with clamps/weights and wedges. I plan on using Teak Decking Systems' FE180 adhesive. Because I will not need much of this material for each strip glued down, is there a clean and easy way to measure out the FE180 in a 1:1 ratio for mixing? Would a dispenser like the West Pump System work with the FE180? Please let me know when you have a chance. Thank you for your help on this. Regards, John Notch

A: Short answer is no, it's too gooey to dispense that way. You scoop it out with sticks. Weight is the only way to create even ratios but it's not necessary. Just eyeballing two even sized pools works fine.

Q: null I am edge gluing 10/4 teak boards to each other, would you recommend this product or staying with a thinner epoxy such as MAS or West?

A: I'd use something thinner.I used this for bonding straight teak to an uneven fiberglass floor. it filled the voids and bonded well.

Q: null I am installing a teck deck for the cockpit open area ( 5' x 6' ) in my chris craft 20' speedster. the decking is aprox 3/8 x 2 strips with teak caulk . the deck area is broken up into different size and shape panels. all panel will be pre-assembled before installation into boat. I want for bond the deck panels to the fiberglass flooring without any screws. What do you recommend? thanks. john

Q: null I have a '68 Choey Lee. I removed the teak and recored the deck and refiberglassed. I now want to glue the old teak deak back down. The back of the teak has a black compound. I have scraped the material off (rather hard but sticky), but the wood is still impregnated with the black compound. Is this adhesive the best one for this job?

A: You must determine what the old Black adhesive is first My guess is that someone used a seam compound where they shouldn't have to hold the Teak Down. I would highly recomend taking theTeak to a Cabinet Shop and have them put it through a Timesaver Sanding type machine to completely remove all the old adhesive. Then yes Teak Decking Systems is the best choice to put the Teak back down. I would be happy to do it for you but I am on Martha's vineyard feel free to call me 508-627-8941 Tom Taylor
