Product Details

TotalBoat AlumiPaint AF is a copper-free antifouling paint that combines a powerful organic biocide to ward off barnacles & zebra mussels, plus zinc to combat slime for full-season protection on pontoons & aluminum hulls. This unique copolymer ablative wears away over time, continuously exposing fresh biocide for maximum protection.

Formulated especially for use on pontoon boats, it provides superior coverage, durability & performance. Apply 1-2 coats per season over previously painted surfaces in good condition, or over properly primed aluminum, steel or iron. It's also ideal for outdrives & running gear & won't cause galvanic corrosion.

Available in Quarts and Gallons in Black & Blue.

APPLICATION NOTE - PRIMING Proper preparation and priming of bare aluminum is critical for paint performance and to prevent corrosion. Unprotected aluminum corrodes rapidly in salt or brackish waters. Even freshwater salinity can pose problems. We recommend priming with TotalBoat Aluminum Boat Barrier Coat Primer, as directed.

Better than Amazon

Last time I painted my boat from Amazon. The paint can came in damaged, no tray or roller either. Shipped late and was delivered a week later. This time the paint was shipped on time and delivered on time, intact and everything was there. I'll be back! Extremely happy.

Alumnipaint AF well done!

I use the AF to re-coat my two pontoons on a sun tracker 22 party barge. I followed the directions provided (sand with 80 grit thoroughly) I spot primed and rolled and brushed in areas the paint coverage was excellent. I had paid $1000 dollars to have the boat AF painted at a dealership that used interlude 33 the last few years. I believe my job which cost under $250 and some of my time (retired) lol. Was better the dealerships!! I'll let you know About it's longevity later.

Exactly as described

The bottom paint not only covered the entire 32 feet but allowed enough to add extra coverage in many critical areas. The added tray and paint roller were a nice bonus!

This product came very thick. I had to thin it to apply.

This did not seem to stick as it should. They probably should have sent me a can of Trilux 33 instead.

Works great!

I've been using this product for three years now, and I haven't had any issues whatsoever. My pontoon sits in brackish water in Mississippi and comes out barnacle free at the end of every season. I also wouldn't buy from anyone else because Jamestown Distributors goes the extra mile by including a paint tray, roller, stir stick, and even a painter suit with each order. Awesome!

BEST DEAL on the MARKET today

Ive owned my 1963 36 foot aluminum Roamer since 1972. Ive run the gamut of painting and even sandblasting the old crud off a dozen times. The new TotalBoat Aluminum AF went on right over the top of the Interlux Trilux II without a hitch. The expensive stuff barely lasts a season (6 months on a river off of Lake Mich. in Wisconsin). The TB went all last year and after a power wash at haulout this fall looked ABSOLUTELY as fresh as the day it went on! even at the scum line. Only 4-5 zebra mussels on unpainted transducer surfaces. Not even ONE spec of white corrosion. Repairs to failure spots were always the norm with other products. I was impressed. So much in fact that I think Jamestown should send me a free gallon to offset the costs of the other 40 years worth of expensive paints. LOL. I am gonna try other TotalBoat products from now on. Anything to comp against KIWI deck paint or Interlux Perfections? ws

Very good product

24 foot Aluminum pontoon boat about 20 years old...I painted this over another more expensive brand that I have been using for years. Probably did not follow all instructions...regarding primers, super sanding, etc., that might have been suggested. One coat in February 2016 and put in water that month. Took out in Jan., 2017. Lease amount of barnacles ever. Lightly pressure washed off the slimy layer. Ready to paint again. Fixin to order some more. Very good product. A: Hi Ryan, Thank you for reaching out. That should not be a problem, just prep per ""Previously Painted Surfaces"" here: https://doc.jamestowndistributors.com/userportal/pdfs/TotalBoat/totalboat-alumipaint-af-tds-3.28.22.pdf

Q: Are there any data sheets that specify spray gun application? What is the recommended PSI and tip size size for a HVLP?

1 Answer

A: Sorry, there is no tech data on spray application. As a general rule, spray application is not recommended for most bottom paints because they're too thick to spray without thinning, and thinned paint will not contain enough biocide to be effective. Spraying of antifouling paints is prohibited in Canada.

Q: The description states to reduce this product with Xylene when spraying. Can you tell me how much it should be reduced: 4:1, 2:1, 1:1?

1 Answer

A: Thinning will vary depending on your environmental conditions. You can thin up to 20% percent but the goal should be not to add any more than necessary to get good flow.

Q: Will total boat aluminum AF bottom paint adhere to bare metal on the bottom of my Jon boat. Do I really need to use primer because I really don't have any extra money to buy primer since everything I'm reading says apply primer first. I've already sanded it down to bare medal so I'm ready to paint now

A: Epoxy primer should be used. Hardware store spray primer may not withstand prolonged submersion.

Q: why do I NEED PRIMER? ON NEW ALUMINUM DINGY ? WHAT PRIMER AND HOW MUCH FOR 11' ?

1 Answer

A: I have an aluminum hull Achilles RIB that stays in the water through the season. When I first got it I knew I wanted to use antifouling. I was advised to strip off the new white hull paint, put down an epoxy primer and then use the alumipaint AF antifouling. I'm glad I didn't do that. Instead I slightly scuffed the hull paint and put down the alumipaint that slightly overlapped onto the hypalon tubes. On the tubes themselves, I used a different antifouling made for hypalon that remains flexible. This combination has worked great for me, with very little growth through a season and great paint adherence. Each season I renew with a single coat. No problems.

Q: I bought a 1968 Weldcraft aluminum project boat 24' X 8'. It is painted blue on the side rails, cabin, and bow deck with a blue strip on the side. Some paint is existing, some new aluminum for cabin changes and a very small amount has come off. It is primed with something that seem secure for the most part. Is this paint for above waterline as well as below the water line? Can I paint over the existing paint? What do you recommend for paint and procedures? I'd like to keep expense low. There is probably 400 to 450 square feet to paint, all above the water line. I'm going to buy something in the near future. I want the best I can afford

1 Answer

A: This paint is only intended for below the waterline. Above the waterline, bare aluminum should be primed with epoxy primer.then it can be overcoated with a one or two part urethane paint. Two part urethane paints will give you the best looking and most durable finish. Painted surfaces can be overcoated with paint, however, before using a two part paint you should test the existing paint for compatibility. If acetone or paint stripper wrinkles the existing paint it is not compatible with a two part urethane. Plan on 400 sq ft per gallon for each type of paint used.
