Works extremely well!!

I agree with the others as to the messiness of the product...especially if you aren't careful with it, or fail to tape and mask your work areas. Other than that...It does the job extremely well, and it was easy to use. I have re-bedded the windows on our trawler and they turned out great. I like the fact that after 6 months in the Florida sun much of it summer and full exposure to the sun...there has been zero fade, bleeding of color, peeling, or separation. I am very pleased with this product and the way it turned out!!

Replace fixed windows on Catalina 30

Watch the video and look carefully at the plastic tip before cutting so you understand the upside down V. Try on a test board first. Its not difficult but merits some practice. The actual installation went smoothly. Ended up with clean lines and water tight seal. I used four screws in corners rather than the ten I'd taken out on my Catalina.

The Sikaflex program works well!

I replaced my screwed in acrylic windows with Makrolon (Lexan with abrasion resistant coating) and used the Sikaflex 226 cleaner, 209 primer and 295 UV adhesive and the results were unbelievable! I did not have to use the screws again making it an even cleaner install. Only advice I can give is tape it off well so when you remove the tape and paper your left with a nice trim line around the windows. This product works very well!!

Great for acrylic windows

Installed 16 acrylic windows in my homebuilt boat with this stuff, following instructions for sanding edge of acrylic, and priming. Tools easily into a smooth bead. Most of the work is in the prep for this use. Boat has been in the weather for 5 years now without any problems with window seal or adhesion.

good product/ messy!

I don't agree that Sikaflex has a good website. Had to switch between two areas to get the istallation picture. A comprehensive sheet would be nice. Messy, you should mask off adjacent areas with newspaper or plastic and have a good supply of wiping rags or paper for the ""tooling"" finger. Make sure you have thin gloves that are not going to fall apart (mine) for your tooling. This can replace screws.

Great for bonding acrylic windows

I used this product along with Sika Cleaner 226 and Sika Primer 209 to bond four acrylic/plexiglass windows. The results look very solid. It is messy, so don't skimp on the masking tape. Here's a link to the instructions that I used: [@]. You'll want to print these as the directions on this three step process are not detailed on any of the containers.

The only thing for window bonding

Used 295 uv along with the cleaner and primer to bond polycarbonate windows in my 26 ft boat. Worked like a charm but its messy so mask off the areas you don't want this stuff to stick to. Sika has a great web site with directions. Follow them and you will get great results.

Q: What is the best choice for a sealant for replacing a polycarbonate hatch lense in a Lewmar aluminum frame? Does Sika295 uv need a primer or activator? If it does, the price for both 295 and primer seems high. Do you or Sika have a video of how to apply the sealant?

A: Hey Dick, I would skip the Sikaflex for your application, it's to costly and complicated for what you are doing. Go to aircraft spruce and order a pro-seal 890 B1/2 and an applicator tip, it's a little spendy but way less money for what you need to do.

Q: I have an older Catalina 30 and the windows tend to leak. I have tried several solutions(Flex Seal Tape was a disaster) but the problem persists. Now I guess I would just like to caulk where the fiberglass meets the aluminum frame. What product do you recommend?

Q: can you use this between wood and fiberglass as an adhesive?

3 Answers

A: Chris Johnson I would not recommend using the SIKAflex 295 UV as an adhesive between wood and fiberglass. It is more specifically formulated to bed acrylic windows into fiberglass. If you are buying something specific for adhering I would look at SIKAflex 221 or 252. I have used both quite extensively. I specifically used the 252 to bed structural bulkheads to fiberglass hulls and that has worked out really well. Both products have great adhesion/sealing but 252 is stronger.

Q: Can 295-UV be used to bond polycarb to varnished wood window frames? (I read about bare wood and painted surfaces, but no info on varnished substrate) Thanks

A: This may depend on the varnish. You may want to reach out to Sika directly with your specific type of varnish, so they can verify.

Q: Can I use the Sika 295 UV for frameless bonding? I have 1/2"" thick poly-carbonate windows 11"" x 26"" and I want to install them without having to screw them down. I've got an inset epoxy flange so the windows will be flush after mounting. I want the right sealer adhesive to install the windows with no screws or frames. Thanks, Chris

Q: I need to run a bead of something along the underside of my Teak rail to keep water outta the boat. NOT to bond the rail to the boat, its already been there 34 years. Several years ago I used 5200 but it didn't hold up well in the Sun. My boat is in S Fla. I'm scraping that old stuff off with the back side of a chisel. Sikaflex was recommend by someone here in St.Pete. What is all ya'll opinion? Which one to use?

A: I applied Interlux Urethane (Brightside) over the top of it. It took forever to dry. After six months, it seeems like the paint still isn't dry.
