Product Details

The Teakdecking Systems reefing hook removes caulk and other flexible materials from teak seams. Hook scrapes caulk and other seam sealants once they have been freed using a razor knife.

It leaves minimal material residue that can be easily cleaned with a hand sander such as Teakdecking Systems Seam Sander. Designed for a long life span, this reefing hook was made with hand comfort in mind, making prepping your teak for caulking a breeze.

The combination of this company's reefing hook and sander makes prepping teak decks for recaulking much faster and neater. Inexpensive way to get very satisfying results to a tedious job.

Deck work dream

Works so much better than bent files or scew drivers. The only issue would be the price, but if you have a lot of seam to ream, you will need this tool.

Questions

1 - 4 of 4 Questions

Q: 1/8"" width seems narrow for our teak decks. The gap measures 5.6mm, or about 7/32"" Is there a wider version?

A: This version will work perfectly - you want the reefing hook to be less than the gap as you can use the reefing hook to clean one side of the gap and then use it against the other side of the gap. It makes the gap much cleaner. Our gap is wider than the tool and the Jamestown Distributors reefing hook will work great. Hope this helps Mack & Vicki McGahee Confetti Kadey Krogen 39 007

A: I'm guessing about 1/8"". I can measure it exactly if you need. It's well made. I'm almost finished 1100' of recaulking.

Q: Hello I am removing caulk from the channels on the deck of my 1957 Century boat. The deck is a light color holly wood and the caulk is hard as rock. The channels are V shaped and I am hoping the the reefing hook is not square but more V shape? Also, do you have a chemcial application to soften the old caulk for removal? Also, the caulk you recommend is? Thank you Rob Hilliard

A: The reefing knife is square unfortunately. I was not impressed with it even though my decks grooves are square. I had better luck using a file that I had heated the point (part where a handle can be fitted on)red hot and bent it about 110 degrees then sharpened it to make my own reefing hook. However I only used it in areas I could not use my mini router with a guide I had made. Not much help if you want to keep the channels V shaped. I was very impressed with the Teak Decking System caulk. Good luck.

Q: will the reefing hook fit in joints that range from 1/8__quote__-3/16__quote__?

A: Yes, it will fit. This tool was invaluable during our 1988 Norseman teak deck re-seam. The 30+ year boat building veteran who guided us through the process bought several for his business after trying this tool. We all highly recommend!
