Biocop TF - proven over 5 years

We moved to RI in 2017 after dry sailing our J24 in Marblehead then San Francisco Bay since 2000. Skipper's Gift has been on a mooring in Bristol Harbor from May-October since then. We applied BiocopTF when we first launched here in 2017 because no more dry sailing. I clean the bottom every few weeks. When we haul out in October a quick sponge is all that's needed. Two coats lasts two seasons. Not the cheapest however for us the best value because the bottom stays clean with minimum maintenance during the racing season.

Can not recommend

When I buy something like bottom paint I read all the on line reviews, practical sailor, cruising forums etc. which I did with the Biocop TF paint. Everyone raved. This stuff is not cheap but if I get 1 year without scraping then OK. I bought it Sept 2013 and added the $50 bio boost. The boat had just been professionally striped to the fiber glass and the Interlux 2000E barrier coat applied. (The 2000E is a great product by the way.) I Painted bottom in early October (Florida season) and by March/April I was scraping barnacles off on Sundays instead of playing with my kids at the sand bar. Honestly feeling like I got duped for over 320 and this was the year I was going to 'do it right'. I pull the boat in the summer (too hot) so sort of forgot about it till I went to buy more paint recently and saw the purchase date and the 'multi season' claim. So I called them on their 'warranty'. The first guy started in on the legal ease of the warranty. Guy #2 comes out, looks at the bottom, takes a few pictures, and in minutes has the same thing to say. It wasn't applied by a certified installer so NO we will not even give you a discount on a replacement gallon. NADA, NOTHING. GOOD LUCK WITH THAT. It's paint. I know how to read and follow directions to paint the bottom of a boat. I've been doing it for 20 years. I've used their paint before and typically got descent result for an expected season and 175/gallon stock. Over 320 on stock, applied to a 'virgin' bottom and they don't see a problem in the failure of their product. These folks not only need some lessons in paint productions but in customer service as well. I will NEVER give them my money again. I'm going back to Micron Extra.

Best bottom Paint in 18 years

After 18 years of sailing I have used several different bottom paints and always picked top of the line from the manufacturer. In most cases the paints were acceptable as long as the application process was done correctly. However, after a season with Sea Hawk Biocop TF I found the performance simply outstanding. Biocop TF left anything else I have ever used in the dust. Don't know how they do that, but in my opinion the price is worth it. Highly recommended based on my experience.

Q: I am considering applying this over my Petit Vivid. Does it use a particular thinner, and can the finish be burnished?

1 Answer

A: I used the biocop over Micron CSC. The Micron was a soft ablative and grew some algae. I sponged the Micron and stopped when I saw the paint coming off with the algae. The Biocop is a harder finish ablative. It did not come off when I sponged it before races. Biocop kept my bottom cleaner than Micron CSC, but it did come off in a few places. This year I only have to touch it up. Vivid is water based. Sand it and put the Biocop on, but not too thick. On Sunday, March 3, 2019, Jamestown Distributors <
