Product Details

Sea-Hawk Monterey is a water-based bottom paint. This semi-hard ablative finish can be applied over most existing bottom paint in good condition. Solvent-free, low VOC formula is environmentally friendly, while providing powerful protection against all types of marine foulings.

Monterey contains 55% cuprous oxide, the highest amount of copper available. However, like all water-based paint, it is easy to apply. Your boat can even be removed from the water without affecting it's antifouling performance. Practical Sailor tested and rated highly for 24 month protection.

Good product, abused in transit

I use this antifouliing paint on about 30 boats a year. Protects well, priced reasonably, water based so does not stink up the shop. This particular gallon was nearly destroyed in transit, would recommend better packaging

Still waiting for the replacement due to 1/4 of can was inside the shipping box. So I can't recommend if it's a good product.

Working good to keep barnacles off bottom. Has been on boat 18 months. Not so good on keeping algae off boat. Easy to keep bottom clean.

Q: will this paint work well on aluminum.if the aluminum had an epoxy barrier coating put on first that is made to use in place of primer for better adhesion would this paint be good for a top coat over this coating? question ask by big mike.

A: We don't recommend a copper bottom paint on aluminum even on a barrier coat, the reason is if the barrier coat is scratched off it will pit. We suggest you use the copper free paints like their Mission Bay CSF.

A: The only problem I had was temperature related. I was in a cold, damp storage shed and the paint gelled if I pushed too soon regarding surface temp.

Q: I am looking for a true black color not a gray black, is this product as black as the color sample when dried?

A: If I remember correctly, it was a good flat black. I used it as the first coat and put blue on top of it. The paint only lasted 6 months as it blistered and lifted the original paint underneath. I ended up stripping all paint and putting on a barrier coat and petit trinidad pro paint in Mazatlan.

Q: how does this paint paint fair on wood bottom boats?

A: I wouldn't know about putting this paint on a wood boat. I put it over numerous layers of hard bottom paint and it started blistering up and the paint came completely off to the gel coat. This happened after 6 months. I ended up stripping off all the paint and started over.
