Product Details

Interlux Fiberglass Bottomkote NT (New Technology) uses Dual Resin Technology to provide the advantages in both ablative and hard antifouling paints.

This durable coating prevents premature wear-through, yet it has a slow polishing effect that keeps the hull clean & smooth without the heavy paint build-up you can get year after year with a traditional hard antifouling. Because Bottomkote NT dries so quickly, you can paint and launch the boat the same day. Suitable for all substrates except aluminum.

Apply this copper-based antifouling paint with brush, roller, airless spray, or conventional spray. At least 2 coats needed for full protection on fiberglass, wood, steel, or previously painted surfaces.

Choose from Black, Blue, Green, and Red for the perfect color for your hull. Available in Quart, Gallon, and 3 Gallon sizes.

APPLICATION AND USE

Preparation

PREVIOUSLY PAINTED SURFACES: In Good Condition Remove loose paint by sanding with 80 grade (grit) paper, wipe with Special Thinner 216. In Poor Condition Remove antifouling paint in poor condition with Interstrip Semi-Paste 299E.

BARE FIBERGLASS: Begin by scrubbing well using soap and water and a stiff brush. Rinse with fresh water and allow to dry. Wipe a small area with a clean rag that has been wetted with Fiberglass Solvent Wash 202. While the surface is still wet, wipe with a clean, dry rag. Continue this process until the entire surface has been cleaned. Sand with 80 grade (grit) paper. Remove sanding residue. Wipe with Fiberglass Solvent Wash 202.

BARE WOOD: Sand with 80 grade (grit) paper. Clean with Special Thinner 216. Apply first coat reduced 10% with Special Thinner 216. Fill seams, if necessary, with Seam Compound Brown 30.

STEEL: Contact Interlux® for further details.

One of three cans was bad.

First time using this bottom paint. First can I open and mixed the paint was very thin, thought nothing of it. Coverage was also very thin and only used 2/3 of a gallon. Second and third cans were much thicker after mixing and paint went on heavier, dried fast and covered like a champ. Paint usage per coat also increased. My bottom looks good. Very sad I paid for three gallons and one was bad.

Good paint for short Northeast season

I have used this paint 2 gallons per year on 37 Egg for the last 10yrs. It is reasonably priced and ablative action is good enough for short North East April to Oct season. Other than light cleaning on waterline holds up well enough. I cannot compare to other but works for me.

Didn't honor rebate

I purchased a 3 gallon black and expected a rebate on it for at least up to 2 gallons for it like the rebate stated. Went through the whole process and they won't honor it. The rebate didn't say the 3 gallons were not eligible or what products were eligible. Just up to 2 gallons were rebatable. So disappointed. I blame Interlux.

Have been using this for several years

Been using this for a number of years. Used to use a much higher priced product, then tried progressively cheaper paints, down to the ones that didn't work. This is the least expensive, but still quite effective, bottom paint I've found for use in our waters.

Q: null Fiberglass bottomkote nt.: Can I expect to get several seasons out of this in April to October Great Lakes waters ? Painted last spring and pulled and power washed in October and looks like I just painted.

A: Hey there. The manufacturer classifies this product as a seasonal paint, which means that recoating every year is recommended. However, the performance you'll get from it varies based on water temperature, use conditions, and the unique fouling load of your area.

Q: null would this product work on a fiberglass shower?. The shower is already blue so no problem there. But after 40 years it has lost it's sheen and is very hard to clean. Looking for a glossier finish for easy cleaning and durability. If so, how much would I need. It is 4 x 46and glass doors.

A: It's toxic so it really shouldn't come in contact with skin. It is not glossy. It will rub off on your feet and you will leave smurf-like footprints everywhere.

A: Hey Frank thank you for reaching out. It is not designed for filling/sealing cracks, best bet is to address the cracks first before painting. I highly recommend reaching out to our tech team at Info@Jamestowndistributors.com 800-497-0010 Mon-Fri 8AM-5PM EST for help on addressing those cracks.

Q: null I have a Haven 12 1/2 , trailered. Bottom is currently Epiphanies Monourethane. Can I paint this bottom paint over it? Thinking of keeping the boat in the water.

1 Answer

A: It's likely the monourethane will blister if continuously submerged for more than few days. This would be true even if overcoated with bottom paint. You will have to strip the Epifanes off before applying bottom paint.
