Product Details

TotalBilge is a long-lasting, epoxy-based bilge paint specifically formulated to protect your bilge, bulkhead, and locker areas. The constant exposure to harmful marine elements like heat, humidity, mildew, grease and grime requires a superior bilge barrier solution to resist moisture and repel most oils, acids, alkyds and solvents right on the spot.

When compared to the top brand name bilge paints, TotalBilge stands up to the test. The single-component paint is easy to apply, dries quickly, and provides excellent coverage with a much harder surface finish. In addition, TotalBilge is easy to clean and does not lift, mildew, or stain over time.

Available in Gray & White colors, in Quart and Gallon sizes.

I would buy this product again.

Only reason I'm giving 4 stars is due to packaging. The gallon can I received was so beat up that is won't sit flat. Other than that I'm very pleased with the product.

I used the product on the bilge wooden carpentry which was completely redone. The paint did not cure. The paint is supposed to cure in 31/2 hours. It had passed more than 10 days and it was not cured yet. I called the costumer service of the TOTALBOAT company and I talk with Nick. He suggested to use an additive so as the paint would dry faster. I gave him my credit card, address etc etc. After two weeks I recontacted Nick who told me they had run out of the product I needed, but he assured me I would have it in 2 days. After 4 days the product has not arrived yet. What an experience!!!!

Third time using with great results

Easy to apply but it is temperature sensitive. Does not like cooler temps. Has the very worst smell so defiantly suggest a respirator mask with charcoal cartridges or your going to feel sick breathing the fumes. Dries with a high gloss and it's hard as a rock. I can't explain comments about not drying or bad results ever. For me it's become my go to for bilge refinishing.

Doesn't seem to ""cure""

I'm in Florida. Used this product on a couple of different boats. Four weeks later and it still hasn't ""cured"" completely. Will never buy again. Lesson learned: ""one part epoxy"" is just too good to be true... so it isn't. Back to catalyzed bilge paints for me.

Cure times wildly optimistic - stay away

My repairs in my bilge were done with epoxy so I couldn't use gelcoat for my bilge. I ended up buying totalboat bilge paint and COMPLETELY REGRET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This paint is going to add at least a week to my project because the drying times they advertise are wildly optimistic. Here's the rundown of what I did and the conditions and the outcome: pre- paint = I sanded the surface then used interlux epoxy barrier coat for primer. let it cure out for a day then sanded it down with 120 grit, vacuumed up the surface and cleaned with denatured alcohol. The surface was smooth as the proverbial baby's bottom. painting = I did not modify the paint in any way other than mixing. I was doing a fairly large area and used 2 pints of paint and lightly rolled out the area, 1st coat did not completely cover the surface, could still see patches where I could still see the fiberglass, so I wasn't going crazy with a thick coat of paint. The weather was lower 80s and not highly humid. I finished painting at 2pm. The fumes weren't too bad, I was wearing a 3m mask with cartridges for painting. By 6pm I did a touch test and the surface seemed dry to touch. Cure = My boat is covered with shrink wrap and I had the back opened as well as cut a door in the front and had a fan running overnight to keep a good air flow. I let the surface area dry overnight and started to lightly sand around 11am the next day with the prescribed 220 grit paper with a DA , the sandpaper loaded up instantly, I had a couple of runs and tried to hit those with a second sanding pad and the it gummed up the surface turning it into a mess. I'm not sure how long I will need to wait to let this stuff cure out to a point where I can sand out the imperfections and start over but my advice to anyone contemplating using this product is to STAY AWAY unless you are going to paint and leave this alone for several days between coats. I definitely do not recommend this product.

Rebuilding a 1982 Baja jet boat. Took out Ford 460 motor, replaced, glassed and epoxied0all stringers. This was exactly what I needed to paint the engine area in the back of the boat. It went on nice and thick, and didn't run at all. Really only needed one coat.

So far I have used it on the floor and bilge in my engine compartment on my Vanguard. it is tough as nails, brightens up the area and generally looks great. Easy to use and goes on nicely, you will need a minimum of two coats but that is true of almost any paint. I will be ordering more soon.

Terrible product

I purchased this for a small bilge area of my jet boat. Cleaned everything well and applied a first coat. I let it dry 2 days and applied another coat, then let it dry for a week. When I had to work in the boat again I found the paint still tacky and it would sag where I stepped on it. Now instead of a smooth bilge the bottom is all wrinkley. I wrote the company but no response. I will add a third coat after all new engine work is done and hope that works. 2 weeks later and some areas are still not dry.

Terrible paint

I have had great experiences with all of Jamestown products until this product. Total bilge is a terribly finicky coating and does not cure properly. I put the first coat on in an extremely thin coat. You can easily see through it to the base material. After waiting 24 hours to apply the second coat it was still sticky. I have waited two weeks and it still is not cured. I can't wait any longer so I'm having to strip this coating off completely using a epoxy paint stripper and going with another product. I am very disappointed in this product and will never use it again!

Total garbage

I prepped sandblasted and feathered the underlined material anticipating a beautiful finish. I applied 3 codes per the manufacturer's recommendation anticipating a beautiful finish. It's been two months well above temperatures necessary for curing. The product is still gummy and soft sliding under foot and wrinkling. The paint still finds itself to my jeans when working in the bilge. It's made a complete mess and now needs a heat gun and chemical stripper to remove. This product is horrible and it's been nothing but a nightmare.

A Most Versatile Product

Hello , At the suggestion of Hillary on your tech staff I used the Total Bilge Protective Bilge Paint as a primer on the interior hull of a 1965 Pearson Commander. This concept made sense as I was dealing with untouched original surface over 50 years young. I was fortunate to have things completely dry and following normal prep/ wipe down.. I mixed equal parts black with grey( another good suggestion ) and found the paint to have a very workable viscosity and flow. This was most helpful considering the abundance of nooks/crannies and challenging surfaces I was dealing with.I did use fans and a heater to assist/ insure the drying process. I could not have been more pleased with the results. This is tenacious stuff that is perfect for not only bilges but any similar ( tired ? ) surfaces. Thanks JD.

Great Paint

Great paint. Flows smoothly, covers everything and dries to a very hard, shiny, slick finish. It is too slick to be walking on, so non-skid should be applied to any walking areas. By the way, I also bought black vinyl spray paint and painted the wiring harnesses before painting the bilge and all looks like new.

Good paint

I used TotalBilge to paint the inside of our transom and deck lazzerettes applied with a small roller for the large areas and brush for tight spots and corners. Heed others warnings that this paint has some serious fumes so ventilation and a vapor mask are both must haves. Coverage was quite good and we needed to apply only 2 coats for a good uniform finish. Flow was also good with no brush or roller marks left behind. The only disappointment I found was that even after 2 full weeks of temperatures ranging from the mid 60's to low 80's, the paint can still be removed with an acetone wipe. I had hoped for a harder finish but it shouldn't be an issue for my usage. Overall, I like this paint and will consider using it again should the need arise.

Covers well and has good adhesion. It's a little soft for my like, but have little experience with other products to compare. I had one coat of primer and two coats of total bilge. Instead of hard epoxy she'll like finish, it is softer and more flexible. It cleans up easily and we'll see how it performs with time. Also, make sure you let first coat dry a good 3 days before lite sand and 2nd coat.

Excellent/Tough Paint

I used this to paint the engine room walls and I'm very pleased with the way the paint went on (rolled) and flowed out. I added 120ml of the gray to one Gal of white to tone it down just slightly. My goal was to have bright/reflective walls without appearing to stark....mission accomplished! The next phase will be to repaint the bilge.

Q: Can epoxy bilge paint be applied over an Easy Fair repair on wood.

1 Answer

A: Yes, you can apply Total Bilge on top of Easy Fair. EPOXY SURFACES: • Epoxy substrates need to be fully cured for at least 5-7 days prior to any surface preparation or before applying TotalBilge. • Once cured, the epoxy must be washed with a mild soap and warm water, then rinsed well to remove any possible amine blush, whether noticeable or not. This must be performed, even if the epoxy is considered non-blushing, or does not appear to have an amine blush on the surface. • Dry the surface completely. • Sand the surface with 220-grit or 320-grit sandpaper. • Remove any sanding residue by wiping the surface clean with a clean, lint-free cotton rag wetted with one of the specified cleaner/surface preparation solvents. • Allow the surface to dry completely before applying TotalBilge, as directed

Q: I have an older model Sea Ray boat and have stuck with the polyester laminating and finishing resins for repairs and added reinforcements. If I use the epoxy based Total Bilge paint am I committing to switching over to epoxy resins on future repairs on the painted areas or will polyester resins be compatible if the area of repair or reinforcement is scuff sanded and cleaned. Dust control in my winter work space is always a challenge so complete paint removal when abrading the surface is not always practical. And if the epoxy based paint is not compatible with the polyester resins then is there a different paint that would be compatible that would be suitable for the bilge, fuel tank compartment, and locker areas. Lastly, if the bilge paint were used to coat some spot repairs on the floor/sole of the boat (under carpet) would standard marine carpet adhesive bond to the bilge paint. Thanks
