Pettit Trinidad HD is a high copper, hard modified epoxy bottom paint ideal for power and sailboats in tropical or other warm waters with extreme fouling conditions. Unique Fast-Dry technology ensures strong adhesion on fiberglass, wood, and steel hulls, and meets stringent 330 gram per liter VOC regulations. Made with 53.3% cuprous oxide biocide, this antifouling paint offers exceptional protection against marine growth, whether docked or underway, with excellent abrasion resistance.

Can be applied with brush, roller, airless or conventional spray gun on aluminum, steel, cast iron, wood, fiberglass, and previously painted surfaces below the waterline. TRINIDAD HD APPLICATION INFORMATION

Trinidad HD is heavily loaded with cuprous oxide. As a result, there is a tendency for settling to occur, especially if the paint has been on the shelf for several months. It is necessary to thoroughly mix the paint before using. If possible, shake the can of paint on a mechanical paint shaker. Before using, check the sides and bottom of the can to make sure all the pigment has been mixed in. If mixing is going to be done with a wooden paddle or an electric drill mixer, pour off half of the liquid from the top of the can into another can and then properly mix in any settled pigment; then remix the two parts together thoroughly.

Adhere to all application instructions, precautions, conditions, and limitations to obtain optimum performance. Refer to individual labels and tech sheets for detailed instructions when using associated products, etc. When spraying, do not thin Trinidad HD more than 5% (6 ounces per gallon) or inadequate paint film thickness will occur and premature erosion of the finish will be likely.

SURFACE PREPARATION
Coating performance, in general, is proportional to the degree of surface preparation. Follow all recommendations very carefully, avoiding any shortcuts. Inadequate preparation of surfaces will virtually assure inadequate coating performance.

MAINTENANCE
No antifouling paint can be effective under all conditions of exposure. Man made pollution and natural occurrences can adversely affect antifouling paint performance. Extreme hot and cold water temperatures; silt, dirt, oil, brackish water and even electrolysis can ruin an antifouling paint. Therefore, we strongly suggest that the bottom of the boat be checked regularly to make sure it is clean and that no growth is occurring. The self-cleaning nature of the coating is most effective when the boat is used periodically. Boats and vessels should not be scrubbed or cleaned for the first six months in the water, and at

I have bought this paint for 25 years

My current boat was in the Pacific north west for 20 years. In that time I only hauled it 3 times. With Trinidad I cleaned the bottom once a year. The combination of cold water and this paint just made boating a lot easier. I'm now in Southern California and ready to repaint after 3 years. The warmer water requires monthly cleaning, however, Trinidad holds up to the scrubbing well.

Q: Can I go over Vivid or do I need to sand it all?

A: I pressure wash, then use a disk sander with 80 grit to scuff it up. I don't sand it all off, just scuff it up. Dominic

Q: what is the curing time

3 Answers

A: Clarify what you might be asking about for curing time:  if you mean the time till the paint dries to the touch of a finger, that will usually be within about two hours in warm (~ 70 degrees) and drier conditions (humidity).  if you mean curing time until you can launch the boat, that should be at least 24 hours.

Q: I'm planning to do bottom paint on my Sailboat with Pettit Trinidad SR in a few weeks. The bottom was last painted using the same paint and most of that paint is still adhering quite well. In preparing I plan to sand the bottom with a small sander but have no intention of stripping it. I am expecting some spots on the bottom to get down to the gelcoat when I sand. My question is, will it be ok to spot prime these spots or do I need to reprime the entire bottom prior to applying the SR? Thanks in advance!

A: I have been repainting my boat bottom that way for years now. Actually decades but whose counting. I use pettit epoxy primer on the bare spots. If the boat is going to be out of the water for more than 6 months, cover the primer with a coat of bottom paint. Then just before you launch apply your fresh bottom paint. UV plays havoc with both epoxy and bottom paints with high copper content.
