Excellent for sharpening and sanding

I watched the Lie-Neilson video on sharpening/restoring an edge to a plane or chisel and recently needed to restore an edge to a plane blade. The 3M product worked perfectly allowing me to quickly restore the edge without risking damage by overheating with a grinding wheel. I also find that it has just the right amount of adhesive - it releases from sanding blocks easily but also holds tightly.

Great Product

The PSA adhesive has just the right amount of holding power and it is easy to remove but holds tight for sanding.

Clogs more than SandBlaster

After using the 80 grit with great results (long lasting, doesn't clog) I was disappointed with the 180 grit clogging very easily. Sandblaster 180 grit is much better at not clogging.

Most versatile and durable yet!

My company Mollberg Piano Restoration sands just about everything on a piano. We restore/refinish case work, put in soundboards, rebuild piano actions. This 3m Stikit Gold sand paper is the best we have ever used. The PSA backing makes it easy to use a variety of sanding blocks, of any size or shape. The grit is extremely durable and will out last anything we have tried. We have used it for wet sanding with good results. Excellent resistance to clogging when sanding sealers, or top coat lacquers. Wide range of available grits make this extremely versatile. An expensive product, but an excellent value. If we MUST sand, we can at least use a great sand paper!

Questions

1 - 4 of 4 Questions

Q: Is the back of this adhesive? Or is it like a normal sheet of sandpaper?

A: It has a slightly adhesive back and peals off your long board fairly easily.  One caveat, though.  If you put away your long sander for an extended period of time, don't leave the sandpaper on it as it does get very difficult to remove after a few months.
