Product Details

WEST SYSTEM G/flex 655 Thickened Epoxy Resin is an toughened adhesive designed for permanent waterproof bonding of fiberglass, ceramics, metals, plastics, damp and difficult-to-bond woods. Build and repair even in harsh marine conditions, including underwater repairs, restoring canoes and kayaks, and wetting out fiberglass.

G/flex epoxy is resilient enough to bond dissimilar materials and flexible enough to absorb the stress of expansion, contraction, shock and vibration. The simple 1:1 mix ratio of epoxy and hardener makes application a breeze, with a non-sagging formula to improve bond strength and minimize waste.

Choose from 3 different sizes of resin/hardener kits: 8 oz., 2 Quart, and 2 Gallon.

Info & Guides

G/flex is a tough, resilient epoxy engineered for a superior grip to metals, plastics, glass, masonry, fiberglass, and wet and difficult-to bond woods.

It is currently available in two versions: G/flex 650 Epoxy (sold separately, a two-part (resin and hardener) liquid epoxy, and G/flex 655 Thickened Epoxy Adhesive with a thickening agent already added.

G/flex is easy to use with a simple 1:1 mix ratio. It has a long open working time of 45 minutes at room temperature. G/flex reaches a working cure in 7-10 hours and a full cure in 24 hours.

    Gap filling thickend epoxy

Really like the pre thickend epoxy. Worked good on looser joints or for gap filling. Stays a little flexible for wood movement once cured. Really like the long work time. Used on mahogany wood and white oak dowels

I keep this on hand for joining teak, sepale, fiberglass, G Board, etc. It's a 1:1 ration and mixes evenly. It can be colored. It can be used to fill screw hole, smooth rough wood before painting, and laminating.

West System should review its packaging method for G/flex

The product works great. But the resin tube on my first order was cracked and oozing a little product out when I opened the package. I contacted Jamestown and they immediately shipped me another package with both resin and hardener. When I opened this new package, neither tube was leaking, but both had indentations like the resin tube in the original shipment - exactly in the same place (see first attached photo). I don't need another replacement, but I am going to have to be careful how I store the tubes for future use. In both shipments, there was no visible damage to the shipping box, so I suspect the damage to the tubes may have happened before the final shipments to me. In any case, I suggest West System should look into this for their future customers. One note: in both shipments, the tops of the tubes were face down in the product box. This puts the tops against each other. If they put one tube in with top up and one with top down, this would give more space between them - maybe put a piece of cardboard or thin foam between them, as it appears the damage is due to one tube pressing against the other. Also, I suggest that Jamestown open up the product box and inspect the tubes before shipping until this packaging problem gets reviewed and revised.

    Easy to apply

I would probably give 5 stars but I have witnessed performance over time. I really like the thickened product which makes it easy to mix and apply and has a good working time. I repaired scratches dings and gouges in my royalex/vinyl canoe. My putty knife a over spread cleaned up well with acetone.

    Worked as Advertised

Purchased the 2 quart kit and used it to attach a polyethylene riser to a fiberglass septic tank. No fasteners were used and the epoxy formed a permanent waterproof bond below grade to prevent the intrusion of rain water. Well worth the expense. Do it right the first time and never look back.

    Great product

I use the product to fill cracks and voids in natural edge slabs. The wood I use is oily. I have had no issues with bonding at all. I have been using this product for about 10 years now.

    G/Flex to my rescue

I have owned a mad river royalex canoe about 30 years. At one point the gunwales were not released when I lived in Fairbanks AK. Winter hit and it resulted in 23 rather extensive cracks. G/Flex 655 was recommended to repair them and it is working wonderfully. I haven't put it back in the water yet but ots Jan in WI Highly recommend it.

Q: I need to fill a screw hole to be water tight in a fiberglass boat. Can I use the G-flex 655 or am I better to use the Six10? I willl not need to re-screw the hole. And I have just one screw hole to fix.

    1 Answer

A: Six10 is not currently available but you could use TotalBoat Thixo. Gflexx would be ok but a more expensive solution. Also take a look at Pettit EZ Tex

Q: Can you use a syringe to suck up and apply G/flex 655 ?

    3 Answers

A: It can be hard to draw into a syringe. You can take the syringe apart and pour a small amount of mixed epoxy into the tube and then reinsert the plunger. Thixoflex is a similar product that comes in a caulking gun cartridge and mixes in the tip as you inject it.

Q: Intended use - filler on Teak small cracks and Joints. Can Flex be color tinted..? If yes, what product.

    1 Answer

A: You can use this for your application, the thickened epoxy is off white and doesn't take pigments all that well.

Q: What is the coverage in square inches of the G/Flex 655? I will be using the Thickened Epoxy Adhesive to adhere Sponsons from ""Sailboats To Go"" to the sides of my 15'4"" Gheenoe canoe. Thanks for your help!

    1 Answer

A: Coverage will depend on how thick it is applied. Check out this link from our support section: https://support.jamestowndistributors.com/hc/en-us/articles/360056623434-Caulking-and-Marine-Sealant-Coverage-Chart

Q: Can this product be applied very thick. I have large 1 inch cracks in a filler material in the bottom of my hanger locker where some hard concrete hard filler material was used to level out the bottom. It has cracked from the hull flex. Will this be a good filler for the cracks

    2 Answers

A: It mixes with the consistency of thin peanut butter and has a slight viscose quality. It bonds very well and can take the flex, however, if the matrix you are bonding continues to crack, you will not be successful. This is a superior product and it worked perfectly for my application. I applied about a 3/8"" thick layer. If your surface is flat and the area is contained you could put a very thick layer in place. Just make sure you purchase the correct volume and allow it to completely set before using the repaired item. I purchase the quarts. Good luck.

Q: I had intended to order the G-FLex liquid but inadvertently order the thickened G-Flex. Can i add a solvent to it to thin it slightly? Thank you

    2 Answers

A: I'm not sure about thinning it with a solvent but I have thinned it inadvertently using liquid dyes and had no bad effects with stability or security with bonding.

Q: Hi has anyone tried using the G/Flex on a Sea Doo spark cracked hull. Maybe with fiberglass cloth ? Thank you.

    3 Answers

A: I think it would work well. I have used gflex for is for patching holes from thru hulls I eliminated. If there is room to gflex a piece of marine plywood behind the crack and then feather the the crack back before glassing it in I think it should be fine. My disclaimer is that I'm not a professional just a hobby boat builder and my opinion may be worth what you paid for it.....Good luck.

Q: will this seal a leaking hot tub PVC manifold that has 4 flexible PVC hoses in it. Does it stick to flexible PVC if I make a form and pour it in.

    5 Answers

A: This product is not recommended for your application. It does have some adhesion to PVC, but under pressure and that type of flexibility, this product should not be used for your application.

Q: I would like to bond unglazed, slightly porous very large ceramic pieces together, one on top of the other (no shear). They will be placed out of doors in a climate that freezes in the winter and is hot in summer. There are some gaps of 3/8 inch maximum. Is West System G/Flex the best epoxy to use in this situation? Do I need to use a thickener and if so which one? Is this material light sensitive, should I paint over it once dried? Is there a recommended putty-like mortar I can use to cover any gaps or can I trowel G/Flex over the gaps?

    2 Answers

    A: We use G-flex for bonding wood-metal and metal-metal. We use PC-7 for bonding ceramic-ceramic and ceramic-metal.

Q: Is the thickened G-Flex 655 thick like a putty or peanut butter after it is mixed or would I need to mix in some 404 high density filler? I need to fill some gaps around a polyethylene water pipe. Also does this epoxy have a shelf life?

    3 Answers

A: Hi Ken, G-flex has some thickness to it but not as thick as peanut butter. I use G-flex in applications where I would like __quote__flex__quote__. Like filling core that I intend to screw into etc. Adding filler would counter act the flexibility I was looking for. Something like microlight might be OK depending on what you are doing. If epoxy has a shelf life it is many years. Jeff
